Traditional Skilled nursing facilities are often not able to address the complex needs of this population, which results in medical and psychiatric deterioration, acute hospitalizations, and negative outcomes. Services focus on skilled nursing, along with specific clinical programming addressing behavioral needs. The “Courtyard at Idylwood” is a 106-bed skilled nursing facility providing services for individuals with a combination of medical and behavioral needs. We believe that utilizing normal daily activities as part of rehabilitation process improves outcomes and reduces length of stay. Speech Therapy: Focus on communication, cognition, and swallowing issues due to stroke, head injury or disease processes.Īlong with traditional approaches to rehabilitation, such as our therapeutic gym, we also use alternative therapies integrating culinary and horticulture activities with the rehabilitation needs of the residents. Occupational Therapy: Activities of daily living retraining, splinting, home management preparation, safety awareness instruction and energy conservation techniques. Physical Therapy: Combined electromagnetic and mechanical modalities, specialized post joint replacement care, stroke rehabilitation, fall prevention, arthritis treatment, and more. We have a homelike dining room with residential kitchen equipment for residents to enjoy informal socializing or structured cooking activities and groups lead by our staff chef. For many residents who enjoy gardening, we have also constructed a wheelchair-accessible garden with elevated planters to encourage those with a green thumb to participate. The Gardens at Idylwood’s campus features three large outdoor patios with comfortable, shaded sitting, dining, and recreation areas. We are dedicated to creating an environment where people can progressively move towards their potential in physical, mental, and spiritual health. The Gardens at Idylwood provides short-term rehabilitation as well as extended stay services. The Gardens at Idylwood is a 66-bed nursing and rehabilitation building on the Idylwood Care Center campus. Residents and staff became participants, not watchers, of world events and formed an even greater appreciation of Idylwood’s community and each other. Participants celebrating a love of sports and the spirit of the Olympics was integrated into the daily lives of the people who live and work in the Idylwood community. The award was given for the Idylwood Olympics, which featured residents and staff taking on the challenge of an Olympic-style competition. Idylwood was recognized by the California Association of Health Facilities (CAHF) for excellence in programming at the organization™s 2009 annual meeting. Both of these services have been featured in the workbook, Nourish the Body and Soul, published by Action Pact Inc., 2008. Residents can enjoy and relax in the gardens on their own or join a structured activity lead by an occupational therapist and activity staff. We also have beautiful flower gardens and a rose garden. The produce for cooking activities is harvested from Idylwood Care Center’s own vegetable gardens by residents and staff. Our mission is to give people a reason to get up in the morning. Idylwood is a place where people are actively involved in making choices regarding healthier and more meaningful lives. Our primary goal is creating an environment where people can progressively move towards their potential in physical, mental, and spiritual health. Wellness is achieved by ensuring the health, happiness, and well-being of the people who live and work at Idylwood. We also know that individuals are unique, whole, and interdependent with their environments, and they can achieve their maximum independence when they are full participants in managing their own lives. At Idylwood Care Center, we believe that individuals have the right to become an expert in managing their own care.
